May 2013 Mina's Studio had the immense honor of being invited to Mark Christopher Salon in Raleigh last night to meet and observe a master in our industry, Mr. Nick Arrojo!
With his commitment to education Nick and his Arrojo team started “Happy Mondays” at Arrojo Academy in NYC as a platform for Nick and the Arrojo master stylists to share their knowledge and experience(s) with members of the hairdressing community. Nick and his team have since decided to take Happy Mondays on the road and Mina’s Studio was invited to experience a Happy Monday event first hand.
World-class education on razor cutting, demonstrated by Arrojo himself, and color techniques from one of Arrojo’s master colorists, Kelly, were just a couple of the highlights from last nights event. Nick also shared his wealth of knowledge on branding as well as the tools needed in order to build and create a successful business within our industry.
The experience was an intimate gathering bringing together hairdressing professionals from the Raleigh / Chapel Hill area and we feel so blessed to have been a part of it. We would like to thank Mark Christopher Salon for hosting and to the Arrojo team for their time and education. It was an experience our stylists will cherish for years to come, thank you! April 2013 In the April 7th issue of the Chapel Hill News, Mina's Studio, a full service salon in Chapel Hill, was voted the best salon and customer service in Orange County annual Rose Awards as well as winning Mina's Studio staff winning best hair stylist and best barista individual awards. Published in its annual edition, the poll recognizes the most popular and highly rated local business as voted on by the residents of the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and Pittsboro communities.
This marks the ninth year Mina's Studio was named best salon in Chapel Hill and fourth year they were voted best customer service. "This is a nice honor for the residents of Orange County to recognize us for something that we love doing - making customers look good and feel good about themselves through our salon services", said co-owner Louann Doran. The salon also received individual accolades of best hair stylist to Lane Clements and best barista to Matthew Darrah. "As a salon that has been servicing Chapel Hill and the surrounding area for more than 2 decades it is really a nice feeling to get recognition from the readers of Chapel Hill News and other local media because it validates what we do and motivates us to even more for our great clientele" said co-owner Alejandra Scott.
The best customer service and barista award are a testament to how important customer service is to Mina's Studio and how they they offer a little more than the typical beauty salon. "Winning best customer service is something very special to us because it shows that not only do we provide good salon services but we also do it in a way that is customer focused and goes to our primary goal of providing an exceptional experience for our clients", said co-owner Alejandra Scott. The barista at Mina's Studio provides complimentary full espresso bar. Clients can request a cappuccino, latte, shot or double shot of espresso or a Water Americano with the option to add several different syrups or other add-ons such as vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, Irish creme, or caramel.

Mina's Studio now provides the Man-zilian to Chapel Hill (also known as the Brazilian bikini wax for men). The Brazilian bikini wax is no longer gender-specific and men can reap the benefits of longer-lasting hair removal and fewer ingrown hairs just like their female counterparts. More and more men of all ages and lifestyles are embracing the art of hair removal and those that have chosen to jump on the bandwagon love it as some men dislike body hair just as much if not more than women. Men are also starting to forgo the itchy 5 o’clock shadow scenario in order to have a longer lasting smoother solution.
The Man-zilian will only be available on Mondays with team member Gabi from 9:00am to 5:30pm.
If interested the following steps should be taken to ensure you have the best possible results:
1. Take a couple of Ibuprofen one hour before your appointment time. This will help with the redness and swelling and will also help put you slightly at ease. (If possible avoid alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before your service)
2. Come freshly showered
3. Be dry and free of any lotions..the less oily the area the better
4. Your hair should be at least 1/4 inch in length (which makes it long enough to lay flat on your skin). Please don't shave for at least two weeks prior to your appointment to ensure that your hair is long enough
5. Be comfortable. If possible, wear loose clothing that day to prevent irritation in the post-wax phase
6. Be relaxed. Reportedly the more relaxed your muscles are, the better your hair removal results will be

October 2012 We wanted to share with you the winner(s) along with some photos from our Kiss the Card contest. Winners were hand picked by special guest judge Dan Shannon of Chapel Hill Magazine on Friday October 19th. We had a lot of fun watching Dan narrow down his choices and in the end he chose two.

Published in its annual edition, the poll recognizes the most popular and highly rated local business as voted on by the residents of the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and Pittsboro communities.
This marks the eighth year Mina's Studio was named best salon in Chapel Hill and the sixth year they were voted as the best spa. In addition they were voted best barbershop and best customer service. "We're very humbled by the awards and the local support we've received from the Chapel Hill and surrounding areas over our 20+ years in the area", said co-owner Louann Doran. February 2012 We are pleased to announce a new service at Mina's Studio, Microdermabrasion!! Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic technique that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. It stimulates the production of new skin cells and collagen. This non-invasive procedure provides great results without the recovery time issues of dermabrasion and other harsh skin treatments (Does not use crystals, chemicals or lasers!). And Mina's Studio offers the newest form of microdermabrasion - crystal free diamond tipped machine. Microdermabrasion may be performed to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, aging skin, enlarged skin pores and photo-damage, as well as diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow acne scars. April 2010 Mina's Studio is participating in Aveda's Earth Month with offering the Aveda "Light the Way" candles. These limited edition items are 100% naturally derived soy wax candle infused with organic lavender and other pure flower and plant extracts in candleholders that were once wine cooler bottles. 100% of the purchase price protects clean water. The Earth Month campaign focuses on a specified environmental topic each year, helping to raise awareness around the issue, cultivate and educate supporters, and contribute funds to dedicated non-profit conservation organizations. This year the campaign focused on providing access to clean water by helping Global Greengrants fund water projects. September 2009 Mina's Studio stylist Gabriela Bozymski is called out in Italian magazine Chi for her hair styling and make-up of celebrity Justine Mattera and her mother Regina. The article ""American Beauty"", was featured in the September issue of Chi magazine. Justine said that she was very pleased with the job Gabriela had done and the finished product. Gabriela, who was trained at the Herman's Institute has 14 years of experience and has been with Mina's Studio for 4.5 years.
Justine Mattera was born in New York but then moved to Italy after college and became famous as a dancer then a singer with a number 2 on the Italian singles chart. She later became a consistent presence on Paolo Limiti's successful TV programs such as "Festivalbar", "Ci vediamo" and "Es I'talia racconta"" and later moved on to stage, movies and her own radio show. She is famous for her act as a show girl showing Marilyn Monroe on the show, "Ci vediamo". Chi is a popular weekly magazine covering people in entertainment. The event raised $8,000 with all the proceeds benefiting the UNC Center for Women's Health Research and the UNC Center for Women's Mood Disorders. About 100 women attended the event which featured small plates provided by the Franklin Hotel, wine tasting and a guest speaker- renowned local author Celia Rivenbark who added her wit and unique perspective on life in the South. The night culminated with a fashion show, featuring local, real women modeling clothes from Lark Home Apparel, with hair and makeup provided by Mina's Studio.
